There is no single best potion game, because “potion game” covers three unrelated activities that share a prop. Someone grinding reagents on a mortar and someone running a shop ledger are not after the same night. So: segmented by verb first, ranked inside each segment second.

A potion making game in the strict sense - a potion maker game, if that is the word order you typed - puts the ingredients, the vessel and the process in your hands and lets you get it wrong. Ranked by all-language review count.

1. Potion Craft: Alchemist Simulator

Potion Craft: Alchemist Simulator is the game this whole query is really about. Developed by niceplay games and published by tinyBuild, it released on 13 December 2022 and carries 44,651 reviews across all languages, Very Positive, read 11 September 2026 - nearly three times the next-largest count here.

The brewing is physical rather than menu-driven: you grind, heat, pour and stir, dragging your potion’s path across a parchment map toward an effect, and recipes are things you discover and write down yourself.

You play Ellie, an apprentice witch sent to a forest village. The loop is gather, brew, deliver: pick plants, take them to the cauldron, hand the results to residents whose small problems open up the map. Brewing follows recipes rather than experiments.

You grow the plants, discover the recipes, brew the results and decorate the shop at whatever speed you like - the only game here that hands you the garden, the book and the counter for under US$10.

You take a contract, research the forgotten recipe, brew it, upgrade the lab. Who you brew for shapes the world around your laboratory, which gives the potion mixing a narrative weight pure crafting sims skip.

Strange Horticulture by Bad Viking, published by Iceberg Interactive, puts you behind the counter of a plant shop in Undermere. Released 21 January 2022, it holds 16,111 reviews across all languages, Very Positive, read 11 September 2026, and links a Metacritic score of 83 - the highest here.

The mechanic is identification, not brewing. A customer describes what they need; you page through a herbal, compare leaf shapes against the unlabelled plants on your desk and hand over the one you believe is right. Get it wrong and the story continues in a worse direction.

You inherit your uncle’s shop and his debt, which sets a real clock. Each week goes on gathering, brewing, befriending and haggling toward the next payment, and haggling is a deck-builder - cards, stamina, a patience bar - whose better cards come from the friendships you build.

Treatment is the loop: diagnose a patient’s symptoms through a minigame, work out the ailment, gather the matching ingredients, brew the cure and administer it - then farm, fish, mine and earn the town’s goodwill with the rest of the day.

It is the least hands-on brewing here by design - you lay out cauldrons and logistics rather than stirring anything - and the pleasure is optimisation.

10. Shelve the Potions!

Shelve the Potions! by Knight Owl Games released on 24 August 2026 and already holds 416 reviews across all languages, Very Positive, read 11 September 2026 - striking for a three-week-old game.

The framing is a puzzle rather than a chore: the witch’s cats have knocked over 2,000-plus potions in an enchanted cellar, and the correct shelf order is not given to you - you learn strange symbols and read cryptic notes to deduce where each bottle belongs.

Ours, and it belongs in this segment rather than the brewing one: no brewing, no recipes, nothing to sell. Made by Techplay, two people in Phuket, dated 17 September 2026 at US$5.99 with a 10% launch discount. It is unreleased, so it has no reviews and no rating.

2,080 hand-named bottles sit on the floor of a first-person apothecary and you put them away: 26 shelves from Alpha to Omega, a gold Sun shelf, a silver Moon shelf. No timer, no score, no evaluation - a wrong slot costs you the walk back and nothing else.

The one thing it has that nothing else here does: its Steam categories list online co-op, split-screen co-op and a competitive Sun-vs-Moon mode together.

Wand & Order: Tidy up the magic shop! by OnSkull Games is the newest thing in this micro-genre and, on its store page, a genuinely appealing one. Dated 18 September 2026, with no reviews yet, checked 11 September 2026.

It is a first-person cozy organising and cleaning simulator with a wider remit: you sort wands, tarot decks and potions, earn points for tidying, and spend them on spells that restore order before the Alchemist returns. That unlock loop is a real difference from the no-score games beside it.
